The Executive Council outreach is part of government’s efforts to be closer to the communities by interacting with members of the communities with a view to acknowledge the basic services that are there, listen to comments and concerns of the communities and collectively map the waforward in speeding up service delivery. The first day was dedicated to meetings between members of the Executive Council and their respective Departmental stakeholder forums which will be convened in different venues in the municipality.
The 8 forums include the Business, Station Commanders and CPFs, Hospitals, Clinics boards and NGOs, Small farmers, Traditional Leadership, Principals and SGBs and Contractors/ Consultancy. These sectoral meetings took place from 17h00. The forums assist the Executive Council to get first hand information from the relevant key stakeholders about all the issues related to development in the area. The second day was a closed sitting of the Executive Council at the municipality and was expected to start at 09:00 and conclude its work around 15:00. Thereafter councilors will meet with all Members of the Executive Council at 17:00.
Residents in the rural Dr JS Moroka and Thembisile Hani local municipalities intent on pursuing teaching careers are set to benefit from a course to be offered by the University of Johannesburg (UJ) in the area next year. This comes after the Mpumalanga provincial government approved a budget for the refurbishment of the former Ndebele College of Education in Siyabuswa to be utilised as a satellite campus for UJ’s faculty of education.
Provincial government spokesperson Lebona Mosia, told The New Age that 100 students would be admitted in the 2013 academic year to study towards a B.Ed (foundation phase) degree. He also said that vacancies for lecturers had already been advertised. “The province has signed a four-year agreement with UJ and after four years the students will be part of the new university. The old college’s facilities are also being upgraded to ensure that they conform to UJ academic standards,” Mosia.said
The third day was dedicated to door to door visits by Premier and members of the Executive Council which started at 07h30. In particular, Premier Mabuza together with the Executive Mayor visited Mzimhlophe High School in ward 9 (Tweefontein).
